I have a 24v solar panel installation that produces max 23 amps at noon when the sun is shining at its full intensity. Out of curiosity, I wanted to check how much current was going into the battery during charging. To do this, I installed a cheap Chinese ammeter.
Everything was working fine for about a month, but then the ammeter fell to the floor. When I picked it up and opened it to investigate, I was shocked to see that the plastic casing had melted. To my astonishment, this supposedly 30-amp-capable meter had desoldered itself from its terminal post while carrying just 23 amps. This caused the casing to melt and ultimately led to it falling apart.
That proved again the universal truth.. “It’s not the volts that kill but the amps”
